Best selling images in March 2011

I’ll continue the tradition of posting the single images that made the most money in the month. As I posted below, the sale of my foreclosure sign movies made the biggest difference in the month, but in the stock photo category, I had two big sales late in the month on iStockPhoto. This first one sold for $52 as an extended sale and shows a large red well drilling truck in the garden of a modern home drilling a geothermal power system:

[/caption]I can see this image being used in a promotional calendar for people in the drilling industry perhaps – I doubt I will ever know, but I’m very happy for the $52!

Then, on the same day on iStockPhoto, I got another extended sale of a lighthouse on Cabo Rojo – the southwestern tip of Puerto Rico. Not a great shot in my mind, but it clearly shows the object of the photograph, and presumably the buyer wanted an image of that specific lighthouse. This particular image sold for $30:

Drilling for a geothermal systemThen, on Fotolia, earlier in the month, I had two sales for $11 each. The first was of another lighthouse in Australia, the second was the shot I discussed in an earlier post last month about the Washington Monument at Cherry Blossom time. The one that sold was the earlier version before I made the updates and improvements and so it was perhaps not a bad shot to begin with!
