Best selling images in May 2011
I’ll start this post early, as I have already had two enhanced downloads from Shutterstock. Last month was a record with over $800 in sales and so this month has a hard target to beat. Luckily, these two downloads from Shutterstock at $28 each, have already pushed the earnings from that one site to $110 after 6 days in the month. The first was yesterday, and is a photo of a Buddha statue on a wooden platform in a small lake – taken off Lake Garda in Italy. The second was a composited image of the large harvest moon with the illuminated monuments and Capitol in Washington DC. The moon was taken the same evening, but it rose to the right of the Capitol – not the best location for a good picture, and so I moved it into a better position in Photoshop! I am sure there is a point in the year when it does rise in this place, so I don’t think I manipulated reality too much!
Update 27 May: This has been a relatively slow month for sales and particularly of higher priced images. Just one more to report, again from Shutterstock. This image is from my ever popular series of isolated images of our Bengal Cats, and I am sure will end up on a packet of cat food somewhere! If you ever see it, please leave a comment!
Update 30 May: Perhaps the month is looking up a little. I just sold a large extended license file on Fotolia (for $14.95) of some old oak barrels in San Diego. This one has been a pretty slow seller everywhere (and I think was rejected from some sites for having no commercial value), but someone obviously likes it!
