Another round up of new Stock Photos

Keeping up with my weekly postings of images submitted to the main microstock agencies! I obviously had the Space Shuttle Discovery imagesposted earlier in the week, but while down in DC, I took this shot of the Iwo Jima memorial with the Washington Monument and Capitol in the background. I was looking to contrast the hard working marines with the people who work in the Capitol…. I also took some more images with my ring flash reviewed earlier. This one...

A Stock Photographers Camera Bag

I’m occasionally asked what equipment I use for stock photography, so here is a summary of what I have, what I use, and why. My main camera is the Canon 5D Mk ii – the full frame 21M DSLR. Why? Because I like the low noise from the large sensor, I can crop well into the image and still get a usable stock photo, and when I am using most of the frame, I can downsize to around 4600 pixels...

Space Shuttle Discovery over Washington DC

I rushed down to Washington DC yesterday morning to join a cast of thousands waiting for the Space Shuttle Discovery, mounted on its Boeing 747, to fly over the city. I got to my chosen spot about 15 minutes before the time the plane was due to arrive, but, thanks to some poor planning on someone’s part, the shuttle arrived 10 minutes early and flew low over our viewing location. Luckily, I had my camera, 70-200mm and 1.4x extender all...

Stock photo examples April 15, 2012

My recent trips around the world (Belgium, New York, England) have given me a lot of images to post, but I’ve also been a bit slow at posting examples of my latest stock photos on my blog. I had an objective of posting new images each week and I am probably a couple of weeks behind! This post tries to catch up with the latest images uploaded to the stock agencies. First off was my trip to Brussels. I had...

Review of Ray Flash RingFlash Adapter

I mentioned a couple of weeks back that I had bought the RayFlash ring adapter for my Canon 580 EX, to help with getting uniform shadowless lighting in some of my macro shots – although it is also good for certain types of portrait as well. It isn’t cheap (at $199), but is it worth it? After a couple of weeks of use, I’m happy to report that I am pleased with my investment – it certainly hasn’t paid back...

Earnings from Stock Photography March 2012

I am very late uploading my usual graphs of earnings for March – I went off to England at the end of March and am only just back (with some more images to process and upload). March was a pretty good month – not my best, but only $15 below that peak. Shutterstock hit a new record of $508, and some of the other sites were fantastic – 123RF with $115 compared to a previous best of $67, and Fotolia...

Update on stock photos – March 16 2012

I’ve been a little slow these past 10 days, mainly because of the final effort to finish the second edition of my eBook on Getting Started in Stock. However, back to the grindstone. The first was an isolated image of a ukulele (isolated with the pen tool in PS), with the sunlight shining across the wood. I love the richness of the wood grain: Up next were some more cat pictures – not too many as I don’t want to...

New Stock Images – March 5, 2011

My first image this week is one of a series that I did on a pressure cooker steaming in the kitchen. I wanted this to look realistic rather than isolated, and show the power of the steam: The next morning I was attracted by the look of the sunlight on a small puppet that hangs in the window – it looked like it was peering outside and making you wonder what is out there: I then made the trip down...

Earnings from Stock Photography February 2012

February started really well on Shutterstock with three enhanced license downloads in the first 3 days of the month, but then it slowed up… Overall, though, the month was pretty much on par with recent months with total earnings of $1120. I worked hard in the early part of the month to get as many of my Hawaii/Kauai images online, and also took a series of macro and still life images as the month went by. That resulted in a...
