Earnings from selling photos in August 2012

This is a very late post, and I can understand if you think I was trying to hide bad news – but no, I had a death in the family and so my attention was elsewhere. However, earnings in August were not good! After a series of great months, with earnings reaching $1761 in June, I fell back to only $1415 in August. Several reasons seem to be behind this – one might be the holidays when buyers are at the beach rather than at their desks, but the main reason is that some of the sites that have big one-off sales just failed to deliver in August. Pond5 had no video sales, Alamy went from $248 in June down to $2.85 in August and Veer dropped down to $15.65 rather than the $80 to $100 sales I have been getting. On the positive side, Shutterstock was almost a best month ever at $617, iStock was fine at $268 and 123RF achieved its own record at $120. So, not all bad news, but a bit of a disappointment! Annual earnings for 2012 are now $11,500 which makes my target of $18000 a bit of a stretch. Looking back though, I earned $4887 in 2010, $10602 in 2011 and already I am over that total, so things are not looking too bad. Lets hope September pulls back from this low point!

    Steve,

So sorry to hear about your loss!

My July and August were a bit weaker, too, so hopefully the buyers will be back at their desks not that summer is over 🙂
