Earnings from Stock Photography July 2012

Well, the run of record earnings had to end sometime, and July was the month! The almost zero count of Enhanced Licenses on Shutterstock (only one EL download on 31 July this month), and a much less dramatic performance on Alamy ($98 compared to $248) meant that this was not going to be a record month, but it was still reasonable for a middle of the summer holidays season. Shutterstock actually did OK with $572, and iStock was great with total earnings of $340 including a couple of their extended license downloads. Dreamstime also had a good month at $108 compared to $65, Fotolia at $80 compared to $69 and DepositPhotos earned $57 compared to $31 last month, but then things petered out a bit. Most of the other sites were in the low tens and many sites came in with zero. Still, with total earnings of $1585, I can’t complain, especially as I started the year with earnings of $1158. I’ve been doing some analysis of my Shutterstock earnings to try to work out how things have changed over the last 18 months – more details here

Here are my normal graphs on earnings per site and overall growth:

2012 Earnings

Total Earnings for 2012 are looking good – $10,600 so far. My target is still $18K for the year, which is $1480 a month from now on – seems to be achievable!

Hi – one of the most useful (the most useful) site I’ve come across on the subject of selling photos. If I may be so bold – I’m guessing this is a relatively recent occupation (that is you in the coin photos etc?) What did you do before and why the switch? If this is covered elsewhere on the blog please just redirect me!

    Regards – Nick

      Hi Nick

Please spread the word about the blog – every incoming link helps!

I was (and still am, part time) in the international telecoms industry on the engineering/technology side. I’ve always liked photography and so this became a good way of earning some money in my golden years as well as providing extra drive to learn new techniques and improve. It has worked!

    Steve,

I have been falling behind with posting my stats but hopefully I’ll get better now that I’m settling into my fall routine.
