Fine Art comes to the rescue
I wrote, just three days ago, that it is a long time since I had a sale on Fine Art America. In fact my previous one was back in June. It must be magic that just writing those words caused someone to buy one of my images for their wall as yesterday I got the email saying this this image of Woodburn Hall at West Virginia University had sold as a massive 40 x 24 inch metal print:
The profit noted was a very welcome $287.
This image was actually one that I manipulated using the sky replacement function in Luminar 4. I wrote about this specific bit of processing back in March when I took the original image and it seems that someone thought that it made for a great piece of wall art. I always hoped that a graduating student would be interested in such a memento – but in view of the timing, it is perhaps a new student just arriving on campus here in Morgantown. If you are interesting in trying Luminar 4 (and there is a new AI version just released), the link on the right will get you $10 off the price unless they have a really special sale on.
Whenever I get these sales I get a great burst of enthusiasm for this sort of photography and so this time I am looking at my sales over on FAA and putting those images on Society 6. My store over there only has 60 different images for sale as it was quite time consuming to load each new one. It is a bit easier now as you can save some default values, but it is nothing like as simple as adding an image to FAA. So now I’m taking a bit more time and reprocessing the images using my more advanced skills (!) to try to bring out the best in the shot before uploading to Society6. I plan to do a few each day rather than have a mad rush, but it seemed logical that if someone liked a shot on FAA, there was a chance that it would also sell on Society6.
I did just notice one new sale on that site – this time on September 1st – this one of a digital water color version of San Diego creating using Watercolor Studio from Jixipix. This has sold quite a few times on Society6 – the latest was a canvas print with a profit of $33. The margins are much lower on Society6 although there are more sales per month.
I’ll let you know if my new approach for choosing images to upload to Society6 pans out!
I am doing the same thing with the art sites, since I have so little new stock to process. The last couple of months have been good on FAA and Saatchi.
On a side note, I just got my earnings email from SS and posted to them on Twitter how nice it was to receive my lowest payout in 7 years.
I’ve never been a shoot myself in the foot kind of guy and I will give them one more month, but if that trend continues, I am thinking about going with only Adobe and Alamy, and focus on art.
Interesting that you have sales on Saatchi as well – how many images did you upload to them?
Congratulations! Its always nice to make a fine arts sale!
