My first sale of a Business Card!

I mentioned in a post in early April that I had tried a new venture – the creation of photographic templates for business cards. I had created 30 templates and spent time uploading them, but throughout the month – nothing! I checked today, and, finally, a sale of a business card. The one that sold is a nice sunset over rolling waves and I got $5 for the sale. Not a lot, but it was actually quite good fun making...

Another Venture – Silver wire-wrap jewelry

My wife has now started her own venture under the Backyard Productions LLC entity – the creation of unique sterling silver wire-wrap cabochon pendants. These start from ornate polished semi-precious stones – called cabochons – and then she created a supporting environment of sterling silver wire, holding and enhancing the pendant for a lovely necklace or brooch. We have opened a shop front on Etsy – 20c to list each piece and 3.5% of the sales price in commission. However,...

April Stock Photography Earnings now in!

April has been another great month for sales of my photographs – $240 in sales. This was pretty evenly distributed around the main sites, with Shutterstock being the best at almost $90 in the month, helped by one sale at $28 on the last day of the month! This makes two months in a row that I have beaten the $200 mark!

Backgrounds for Business Cards

I am trying a new venture this month – creating the backgrounds for business cards. This is a pretty easy extension of stock photography as many digital photos are very suitable for use as a business card with little modification. So far, I have created 30 different designs, and they can all be seen at www.PrintBusinessCards.com. On the site, you can see how my own stock photographs can create interesting backgrounds for business cards. The only complexity for new photographers...

March Earnings from selling my photographs

March has been a great month – increased from an average of $120 per month to $240 this month! Sales were up across the board, although two $20 sales as CanStockPhoto really made the difference. This is a site that is easy to upload to, and, although not a regular earner, certainly helped this month. Give stock photography a try – it is great fun.

Update on earnings from Stock Photography in 2008

I started to upload to the various stock photography sites in early 2008.  The sites are described below with a summary of how much I earned from each one in 2008. Shutterstock Commissions for photographers start at 25 cents for each picture downloaded and after 500 dollars in earnings this bumps up to 33 cents each. This may not seem like much, but because of the monthly subscription style a much larger number of pictures are downloaded each day –...

Seeing your work in print – big satisfaction

I’ve been involved in stock photography from about a year now, and have recently seen the first two examples of my work in print – the first on a vacation in Kauai, where I picked up a local guide book and saw one of my photos of Waimea Canyon on the main page of the guide book. Then, on a recent flight on United, I opened the Hemispheres Magazine on the main index page, I saw a photo I took...
