Sales from Photography in July and August 2024

I’m back with a very short update on sales from stock photography and from online sales of my work as prints. Why so long since I have been online on this site? Over the past couple of months, we have been getting our home in West Virginia ready for sale, looking for and buying a home in Austin Texas (actually Georgetown, TX) and then packing up, moving and starting to unpack in our new home. Quite an adventure and a tremendous amount of work. So, the photography businesses took second place to all that activity.

I just wanted to update you on the earnings that have been building up – interesting that you can do absolutely nothing with this business and still get the earnings coming in, although I must admit that the fine art stuff has been suffering as I spent no time at all on social media trying to promote my work.

In July 2024, I earned a total of $2288 – the lowest amount in July for many, many years. August 2024 was a bit better with $2500, mainly thanks to some sales on Pictorem and Fine Art America. The normal graph looks like this:

Earnings from stock photography and the sales of fine art prints in July and August 2024 with historical records
Historic records of earnings from stock photography and sales of prints

And here is my graph that separates out the fine art prints from the stock earnings:

That is really all I have time for today. I’ll be back later in the month with more details of which agency did what and what were the best sellers.

Thanks for reading!

Thanks for the insights and update, Steve. Always appreciated. Yes, this summer has been especially slow for me. It’s been a little troubling, so honestly, I take some comfort in your numbers. The economic picture has really declined this past year. Hopefully we see the start of a turnaround this fall and next year. Good luck with the move and getting settled. A cross country move is a tremendous amount of work for sure.

This year has been pretty disappointing, I must admit. Whether it is just that I haven’t added any new images, or the rise of AI content, but I’ve just not had the volume of sales that I have had over the past years. I plan to take more images in my new location, so perhaps that will boost my sales. And I’ve been working on my Etsy store and plan to write more about that in due course. Just need to get settled here in Texas!
