I have tried various sites in the past, and have never actually deleted images from an agency, but for some, I just stopped uploading new images. As usual, I’ve been a bit slow in posting – this time because of a 3 week trip to Europe including a cruise down the Danube (photos still in development…). As a result, I have only just updated my records of sales for last month. As it turned out, the month of September was OK – again, not great, but I ended the month with $2300. After a “dry spell” on Fine Art America, I awoke to a sale of a print of the harvest moon rising over Washington DC this morning. Some great sales on Shutterstock as well this month, so it could turn out to be a great month for earnings from stock photography. More later!
Another update in my regular series. Total income for the month was $2217, which is about $200 higher than last month, but, on the downside it is pretty similar to what I earned 12 months ago on a smaller portfolio! That isn’t a great sign for me. As usual, Shutterstock easily overwhelmed all other sites with about 45% of total earnings. iStock was next with $235 and finally I am out of the 6 month “recoupment” program where they were...

I miss being able to present the complex graphs I used to do, but the edict from Shutterstock that you should not provide detailed information on your earnings has put a damper on that for me. I think the line they are taking is not necessary (I’m sure it is to do with analysts trying to estimate their earnings), but they are the ones with the power and I can’t afford to annoy them! Anyway, my Shutterstock earnings are continuing...

I’ve been pretty quiet for a few weeks – mainly because I went on a long vacation to Australia and New Zealand, cruising on the Celebrity Solstice from Sydney to Melbourne, across to New Zealand and then around the South and North Island – great relaxation and pretty good for photography. I’ll write more about the issues of taking good photos when on a cruise in a future post once I have processed the 3500 images I came back with!...
