Making money from self portraits

Well, not exactly portraits! But I have earned quite a bit over the years using myself as a model. I wrote this as a guest post for the Xpiks blog. Xpiks is a combined keywording, describing, uploading system that combines many features that makes uploading an easier task. You can find the article about “Making money selling photos of yourself” here.

  1. Great post. A lot of good info, as usual. I use models from time to time, and the one that is giving me the most income for now, is… myself! At first I thought what you have commented: Who is going to want a photo in which I appear? Surprise!

  2. I must confess that problems having model releases accepted has discouraged me from such submissive. Great post, and I see the potential, but I don’t have enough patience to persist in filling out those forms just to get them rejected.

Apart from iStock, that was tricky with the date of the MR, I have no issues at all. I have a template in Photoshop with all the bits filled in (including the signatures) and then can just edit the text that needs to change, such as the dates or the description of the shoot. Then export to Jpeg and off we go!

Are you using Xpiks now instead of M+? I’m currently trying to get M+ all set up. I’ve only uploaded videos in the past, but think photos may be worth it if they’re uploaded to 30+ agencies.

I'm always interested in what you think - please let me know!
