Selling your Fine Art Photography
I’ve been writing posts for 3 years now about my adventures and experiences in selling my photos as Fine Art prints as well as continuing with my stock photography work. I find it a lot more satisfying to find out that someone likes my work enough to actually buy a copy for their wall, and it is even better if they take the time to contact me to say how much they like the result.
But can you just upload your best photos to Fine Art America, or Pictorem (referral link) and start to see the sales roll in? Unfortunately, not!
Just like in the stock photography world, you need to do work both before you upload and particularly after to make sure that the photos don’t just vanish into the depths of an enormous database of images never to be seen again!
I decided earlier this year to sit down and write a book, similar to my popular Getting Started in Stock book, that goes through all the steps that I think you need to take to get your art sales moving forward. It is available now as an eBook in both PDF and ePub formats so that you can comfortably read it either on paper or on your phone or tablet.
Heard enough – here is how to buy it:
I provided a copy to a few photography friends before finalizing it. She provided a great early comment:
I’ve only read 21 pages so far, and I’m stunned at how well it is written, super detailed, chocked full of information that every artist should have when trying to market their work. It’s amazing. I love the part you shared about your query on the 1959 Cadillac Eldorado… I have used Chat/GPT-3.5 many times, but the way you included “..that will be used to sell wall art prints of the image and should also include details of what sort of person would be interested in the print.” I tried this technique tonight, Steve, and I’m flabbergasted at how much better results I’m getting from the Chat/GPT engine. It’s amazing. So many good things I’ve read so far… So honored to be able to read this.

Hooray! Very cool! You know that’s your fault that I got into Stock photography, right? I came across the book as i was looking for ways to make some little money.
Thanks! And think how much fun you have had taking stock photos!
Awesome book with lots of great advice! Gone through it once and will be referencing it many more times.
Thanks Rick – if you need any other questions answered, please let me know!
