Special Independence Day offers

I’ll do these posts from time to time when I see a new offer that looks interesting on the two main products that I regularly use (besides the Adobe suite). The first up is Luminar 4 from Skylum with its very clever sky replacement feature (and quite a lot of interesting things about adding large moons to empty skies at night). The latter might not work for stock images (because you don’t own the copyright on the moon image), but for fine art type work it would add a lot of magic to your images!

Luminar4 is $64 for new users with this sale (through July 7th) although you will get an extra $10 off if you use my code “BackyardSilver”! Here is my affiliate link to the Luminar 4 sale.

Then I noticed that Jixipix – the makers of the digital painting plugins that I use for my fine art (and sometimes stock) work. I’ve written about using these packages a number of times, the most recent one is here. The link for the Jixipix sale is here and you use the code “HOT40SALE” to get 40% off the normal prices.

If you were thinking about these packages, now might be a good time to buy one!

  1. Are these programs subscription based, meaning do you have to buy it every year like Adobe? Or is it a perpetual license?

I’m tempted to buy the watercolor program but I aspire to be a skilled watercolor artist one day and fear this cheat will mean that never happens!

Perpetual license and there have been some impressive updates on Luminar. I painted my cat in water color in this article: https://backyardsilver.com/society6-more-sales/

      • I bought the watercolor studio (got me!!!:)). Since their customer service doesn’t answer me, how do you install it as a photoshop plugin? I installed it as a standalone program but I want to use it in photoshop and I don’t see any instructions as to how to do that.

Also, I’m curious how you label images that you sell when you use this program. Do you call them “watercolors” or do you say photo with “watercolor effect” or something of that nature.

I hope you like it! I don’t recall doing anything very unusual to install as a plugin. I normally just double click the installer and it works! I see the Jixipix apps in Photoshop Filters menu under Jixipix. Have you restarted Photoshop? I also see the Jixipix apps in the Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2020\Plugins directory on my C drive. Do you have older versions of Photoshop still installed?
I call my images digital paintings: https://www.shutterstock.com/image-illustration/digital-watercolor-painting-photograph-tall-skyscrapers-1198198609. Sometimes an agency might say I need to upload them as illustrations – it is very hit and miss.

I just updated this app to the latest version and the first thing it said was this would automatically be installed in LR and PS. I closed those two applications to make sure that it did its stuff, and as far as I can see, all is well.

  2. It appeared in my photoshop when I opened today, I guess it just has to update. Having fun with it already!!

I'm always interested in what you think - please let me know!
